Alberti 154
https://www.southernwinegroup.com/
Region: Mendoza
Alberti 154 is produced by Bodega Elvira Calle. Elvire Calle’s family were the original owners of Diario Los Andes, the main newspaper in Mendoza. Elvira is widely known as a philanthropist. When asked why she wanted to get back into the wine business, she replied, “To invest in something that is key to what Mendoza is all about, to invest in the local economy and to give back to the community.” Calle grew up on a winery in Mendoza and has had vinyards in her family holdings for decades. Alberti 154 is the street address of the winery located in the heart of Luján de Cuyo, Mendoza. The winery was purchased and restored in 2001. The first harvest was received in 2002. Malbec, Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot were the first varieties produced.

Alberto Longo
http://www.albertolongo.it
Region: Puglia
The Alberto Longo Winery is located in Lucera, Apulia, at the middle of an area with numerous environmental and historical merits. The area, inhabited since Paleolithic times, saw between the X and XIII centuries the development of the Daunis civilization: peoples from the Aegean, bearers of a culture of which today we can still find traces in the anthropomorphic stele and other numerous archeological finds. Completely Roman from the III century onwards, Daunia, with its principal center Lucera, had close links to both the Roman Republic and the Roman Empire and thus it obtained, as can be seen from the splendor of the Roman buildings still to be found in the area, significant advantages and an autonomous existence. If the period of Byzantine and Lombardic influence is to be considered of a shadowy nature, the arrival of the Swabians in the XII century meant, especially for the province of Foggia, that the region became a focus and reacquired the importance that it had, over the centuries, lost.

Bellarine Estate
http://www.bellarineestate.com.au/
Region: Geelong
Bellarine Estate was established in 1996 with the goal of producing premium cool climate wines from the Bellarine Peninsula. The 80-acre property is planted with Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Viognier, Pinot Noir, Shiraz and Merlot. Nestled in a north-facing valley, Bellarine Estate is well sheltered from the harsh winds but is positioned perfectly to capture the warm sun. This true maritime climate provides warm days and cool nights to ensure a long, slow ripening season, which results in fruit of exceptional quality. Black basalt soils over limestone further accentuate the fruit flavors. Since the first vintage in 1999, Bellarine Estate wines have won high acclaim, with all current vintage wines having won a medal. The highly acclaimed 2000 vintage James' Paddock Chardonnay has been voted in the Top Ten White Wines for 2001 (Geelong Advertiser), and has been awarded a 3 star rating by Wine State Magazine. Bellarine Estate currently produces two labels: Bellarine Estate and Portarlington Ridge. The 2000 Portarlington Ridge Merlot took a Bronze medal at the coveted San Francisco International Wine show as well as a Bronze and Silver medal on the Australian circuit. Well located only 20 minutes from Geelong and close to Portarlington, Queenscliff and Ocean Grove, Bellarine Estate is an ideal lunch or dinner stop when you next visit the picturesque Bellarine Peninsula.

Bogoni
http://www.angeliniwine.com/Producer.asp?BrandID=8
Region: Veneto
The love affair between the land and the Bogoni Family has lasted for over one hundred years, ever since the mid-nineteenth century. The great-grandfather Napoleone Bogoni bought the first piece of it, called Ponsara, from a local family of nobles. He cultivated this piece of land lovingly for years. His son Giovanni, who moved the winery to Monteforte, inherited his passion for the land and for the vines. Then came Luigi, Giovanni's eldest son, who went to agricultural college, and who expanded the estate to a size of 20 hectares. One generation later, Carlo, an expert oenologist, equipped the winery to be able to turn all the grapes grown into wine. He concentrated solely on the production of an outstanding Soave D.O.C. Classico Superiore. His efforts began in the vineyards, where he worked exclusively using organic methods which respect the environment and the biological equilibrium of nature, and continue in the winery itself, where he avails himself of many years' practical experience. In 1993, his brother Fabio joined the company. Carlo began to market the products of greatest prestige in Europe. An old love thus gave rise to the small Bogoni family business. Using the most up-to-date and environment-friendly production systems, and careful not to upset the biological balance of nature, the business has optimized the production process applied to the vineyards, thus reaching the high quality typical of his Soave wine. Passionate research and experiments both in the fields and in the winery are the most characteristic aspects of the work of these two brothers. The renowned typicity of this wine, together with the care and attention employed in every phase of production make Bogoni's Soave D.O.C. Classico Superiore, an excellent representative of its appellation.

http://www.angeliniwine.com/Producer.asp?BrandID=1
Region: Marche
Cupramontana, the ancient native land of Verdicchio, is situated in the heart of the Marches on one of the sunny, green hills bordering the valley of the Esino River. There the Bonci family has been producing their wine since the early years of the 20th century. Showing an outstanding farsightedness, Mr. Bonci selected grapes grown from the best locations to produce wine destined to a select clientele, who understand the terroir character and artisan winemaking techniques. At present, the Vallerosa Bonci farm owns 125 acres (50 hectares) consisting of specialized vineyards. The vineyards are, on average, at an altitude of 450m above sea level. The special microclimate, the careful selection of grapes, many years of artisan experience in wine-making, all combined with the use of the most up-to-date techniques, make Vallerosa Bonci a leading winery in the field of quality wines with terrior character. Receiving the coveted Three Cup rating by the Gambero Rosso 2002 and the highest vote of all white wines in Italy with the Verdicchio "San Michele" proves that Bonci produces an excellent and high quality wine.

BRESSAN
Farra d’Isonzo (Gorizia) – Italy
The Bressan vineyards, located within the town of Mariano del Friuli, Gorizia province, Italy, date back to the 1600’s, surrounded by rich Celtic history in the strategic landscape of Farra d’ Isonzo, and founded on solid family values and ancient land, where limpid horizons have always captured sensations, colors, scents and flavors most effectively.
Here, the centuries-old spirit of the Bressan family lies, where the slopes of the Collio region fade gently and open up on the Isonzo river valley, in a slice of land protected to the north by the Julian Alps and open to the south to the hot winds of the Adriatic Sea, where rare mixture of natural elements (geographic, geological and climatic) have created a unique and inimitable “terroir.”
With the protection from these geographic luxuries, extreme climate conditions are avoided, and moderate weather permits early development of the entire growing cycle by several days with respect to vineyards that are farther from the river, thus granting grapes with excellent levels of maturation.
Over ten generations of Bressan family dedication has gone into producing wines exclusively of grapes grown from the family’s 25 hectares of vineyard.

Ca' del Monte
Region: Veneto
CA DEL MONTE is the name of a location that hooks over the village of Negrar, North of Verona, in the heart of Valpolicella, easy to reach through the panoramic way that climbs the hills after San Peretto. The original building of the estate of Ca del Monte, is a 17th century mansion, constructed from the rests of an ancient monastery. The winery, today directed with lots of enthusiasm by the young brothers Umberto and Giuseppe Zanconte, has been property of the Zanconte family for generations. The two brothers follow personally all steps of production and agree together their business strategies. The winery lays on aproxximately 50 acres of vineyards, entirely located on the hills of the district of Negrar, perfectly exposed to the sun, looking south, south-west. From always, vineyards planted with the typical red grapes of that region, Corvina, Rondinella, Molinara and other traditional varietals, from which originate outstanding Amarone and great Valpolicellas.

Carlo Giacosa
http://www.angeliniwine.com/Producer.asp?BrandID=15
Region: Piemonte
The wines are absolutely precious because of their quality and limited production. Carlo Giacosa, a producer in the heart of Barbaresco, has proudly continued the tradition and high standards of wine making which his forefathers established. His gather, Giacosa Donato, was recognized as one of only three master grafters in the Barbaresco and Barolo regions. The vineyards and the cantina are located in the heart of Barbaresco, surrounded by the vineyards of the famous Gaja. The view from their cantina is breathtaking, looking at the town of Barbaresco, which is about 1/4 mile away across the valley of vineyards. Carlo Giacosa spends everyday of his life rising early in the morning, making the wine in each bottle. Carla and Grazia, his wife and daughter, help him during the year, and outside help is employed only for the harvesting of the grapes; the same two “old-time” and reliable helpers are always chosen.

Carpenè Malvolti
http://www.carpene-malvolti.com
Region: Veneto
Carpenè Malvolti, one of the most ancient and prestigious houses, has helped to form the great Italian wine making tradition. It was founded in 1868 by Antonio Carpenè, a forerunner in the application of biology to the art of wine making (a then newly acquired knowledge). In contact with the great scientists of the century, Pasteur and Koch, Antonio Carpenè published practical and theoretical treatises on the subject of wine making, and, for many years, these were considered classical texts on the subject.

In 1873, at Conegliano, he established the first Oenology school in Italy dedicated to the study of grape growing and wine making. His work was carried on by his son Etile, who was then succeeded by Antonio Jr. Today’s custodian of the family traditions and expertise is Etile Carpenè Jr., the great grandson of the founder Antonio. Carpenè Malvolti is as faithful as ever to the traditions and high standards set before it. Carpenè Malvolti was the first in Italy and in the world to perfect and promote the production of "method charmat", or sparkling wine made in large vats.

Casa Julia
http://www.casajuliaestate.com
Region: Maipo Valley
Chile has come a long way in recent decades in producing fine, high-quality wines. The natural climates are a big part of Chile’s success in the wine world. Cool ocean breezes and bright sunny days are a perfect combination for growing grapes throughout a long season. This allows grapes that are planted to optimize these conditions to develop full flavors and ripeness. As more acres of land are planted with vines in Chile, grape growers are learning which varietals work best in the various “microclimates” throughout this long country, and are developing their own sense of “terroir.” Casa Julia Estate wines are produced with this in mind. Start with high quality fruit from ideal regions, and vinify the grapes to get a fresh wine that reflects the individual characters. The Merlot comes from Rapel Valley. This large region is dominated by two rivers, which carry water from the Andes to Lake Rapel. Rapel’s soil consists mostly of clay, loam, lime, or sand, which makes it ideal for Merlot grapes. The Casablanca Valley is the home of the D.Bosler Pinot Noir grapes, and is located 80 kilometers west of Santiago. It is often compared to the cool California region of Carneros, with morning fog, ocean breezes, and sunny afternoons. The sunny days enrich the aroma of grapes and allow full ripening, while the evening cooling and morning fog ensures that the fruit keeps its acidity and maintains balance. The Curico Valley is the home of the Sauvignon Blanc vineyards for Casa Julia. It is located about 200 km south of Santiago. The greatest concentration of vineyards is found in the sub-region of Molina, in the southern end of the valley. The soils generally are clay and loam, with volcanic material that provides a nice strain of mineral notes to the wines. All the wines at the estate are fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel to preserve the vibrant fruit and acidity of the wines. A touch of French oak adds depth and structure to the red wines while they are aged for a short time in barrels. The result: smooth, fruit forward wines with true varietal expression.

Castello di Neive
http://www.langhevini.it/en/aziende_scheda.asp?id=223
Region: Piemonte
Castello di Neive was re- built in the 18th century from the foundations of the previous 16th century building; since that time the cellars have been used for wine production.
During the 19th century, the French oenologist and wine trader Oudart operated as a consultant for the Count of Castelborgo, owner of Castello di Neive. Oudart’s goal was to use the Nebbiolo grapes, which had only been used so far to make effervescent light wines, in order to obtain a dry and distinctive wine that could compete with Burgundy wines and be easily exported. In Castello di Neive’s cellars he produced “Neive” that won a gold medal in London in 1857.
Today, in the same cellars once used by Oudart, Castello di Neive’s own wine-making still follows all the traditional procedures, while incorporating the most current technical enhancements, and equipment modernizations, meeting the demands of the ever evolving tastes in the world.
The castle with its 60 hectares of land (150 acres) is owned by the 4 brothers and sisters of the Stupino family. Italo Stupino manages the vineyards and cellars. Claudio Roggero is the full time oenologist of Castello di Neive.
Since the arrival of the Stupino family and Mr. Roggero, the oenologist, Castello di Neive has played a central part in the rediscovery of Arneis, a Piedmont’s wine once ignored due to its complex nature.
In addition Castello di Neive’s enthusiastic activities have given birth to some new and stimulating experiences: from Pinot Noir grapes in 1996 the company has created “I Cortini”, from Barbera grapes they created “Barbera d’Alba Mattarello” both in aged barrique as well as”Barbaresco La Rocca di Santo Stefano. In 1995 Castello di Neive developed a sparkling wine that utilizes 100% Pinot Noir grapes known as “Castello di Neive Classico” as well as a remarkable Passito from withered Arneis grapes.

Catturich-Ducco
Region: Lombardia
To find the origin of the Catturich-Ducco family, you have to go back thousands of years. It seems that the name Ducco descends from De Duchis, a noble Roman family, traceable since the era of the Roman Emperor Domiziano, and one of the oldest noble families of Brescia.
The Ducco family was one of the most important contributors to the development of agriculture in the Province of Brescia. Agostino Gallo, in his famous book “The 20th agricultural days”, dated in the beginning of the 500 AD, wrote how knowledgeable and perfectionist the Count Cosimo Ducco was on the field of agricultural production, and in particular, the cultivation of the grapevine.
The estate is located in Camignone (Franciacorta), an area vocated to the production of wines since the year 1000. The Cluniacensi monks initially started the cultivation and production of wines in Camignone. Over time, the area became famous for the cultivations of Pinot Blanc and Chardonnay grapes and for the making of method champenois sparkling wines. For this reason the area was nicknamed “little champagne”.
As a tribute to his famous ancestors, in the mid 1980’s, Giorgio Catturich joined the company and, with great enthusiasm and determination, created the new line of wines Conti Ducco. Conti Ducco with his property of 90 Hectares (223 Acres) of cultivated vineyards, it’s the largest landowner of vineyards in Franciacorta.

Coati
http://www.angeliniwine.com/Producer.asp?BrandID=39
Region: Veneto
This wine is made by Bruno Coati, father of the twin siblings who own Corte Rugolin. The Coati wines display the traditional wine making method of the area. Corte Rugolin is the name of an old Manor house of the late 1600’s. This property, owned by Count Nuvoloni, was purchased in 1971 by Bruno Coati. The Coati Family has been making wines since 1918. The vineyards are in the heart of Valpolicella Classico, an ideal soil for the production of grapes, cherries and olive trees. At this vineyard research and experiments are continuously ongoing. In the last few years, the fourth generation of the Coati Family, Elena and Federico, have joined the family business. They expanded the operations, with the cooperation of their parents and Oenologist Luigi Andreoli, and started Corte Rugolin. Their 12 acres of vineyards are designated for the production of very high quality wines. They are achieving these results by increasing the density of the vineyard, reducing the yields per vine and by using barriques. The true character of the wine is never forgotten, and evidence of their success is proved by the two gold medals received in the recent competition of “Vini Classici della Valpolicella” and “EnoConegliano”. They have also been awarded 2 glasses in the Gambero Rosso 2000 edition and are mentioned as one of the up and coming wineries from Veneto.

Situated in the southern Rhone, Domaine DuSeigneur produces fantastic wines. The soil is very typical of the region, large orange soils that make you wonder how anything can grow there, let alone a fruit as delicate as a grape! These large stones benefit the vines though by absorbing the heat of the sun during the day, and then radiating that heat throughout the night, keeping the vines warm even in cool weather. Frederique DuSeigneur has been practicing organic viticulture at the domaine since 1993, and has been officially recognized as an organic domaine with the 1999 vintage. Emphasis is on low yields to bring out the intensity of fruit and terroir in the wine.

Domaine Fichet is located in the heart of the Maconnais, in the town of Ige. The family have been wine growers in the region for generations, and started making their own domain wines in 1976. Today, two brothers, Pierre-Ives and Olivier run the family business, which encompasses 19 hectares of vines planted to Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Gamay. Château London is on of the oldest highly reputed locality in the Mâconnais. The largest parcel of the domaine as well as of the commune, with 3 hectares belonging to the estate, it has a mildly humid micro climate with fairly frequent morning fogs as well as enough sunshine to allow the grapes to ripen properly. It is this cuvee that expresses the terroir the most regardless of the vintage. This wine is capable of pleasing a variety of tastes because it is quite fruity with aromas of quince. It is also very round, fat, powerful and easy to drink and has a great aging potential.

Domaine Roger Belland
http://www.tedwardwines.com/rogerbelland.html
Region: Bourgogne
Domaine Roger Belland is a fairly substantial Domaine by Burgundian standards, encompassing 23ha in all, with some very important Premier and Grand Crus holdings, principally in the villages of Santenay and Chassagne-Montrachet. The Domaine has the single largest parcel in Criots-Batard-Montrachet, and owns the monopole vineyard 'Clos Pitois' in the Premier Cru Chassagne Montrachet 'Morgeot', from which they make both red and white wine. In Santenay, they possess an average of 2.5ha in each of the Premier Crus, La Comme, Beauregard and Les Gravieres. The vines in these Premier Crus are an average age of 30 years, while those in the 'Clos Pitois' are an average of 50. Most of the vineyards are planted with grass and other cover crops, to retain the natural soil structure and increase the quality of production. The Domaine is managed by Roger Belland, who has taken over various parcels previously worked by his father. Without doubt Roger Belland is a leader in a new generation of wine makers in Santenay, producing wines of greater elegance and less alcoholic power than their predecessors. Belland always emphasizes the aromatics in his wines, and the specific terroir of each vineyard is evident. The red wines undergo a 'Maceration a froid' for about 5 days, followed by a slow temperature controlled fermentation in open topped vats, lasting for a further 10-11 days. 100% destemming is practiced as well as a very rigorous selection for quality material. The Premier Crus spend 14 months in oak (1/3 new), a light kieselguhr filtration is performed and then the wine is fined prior to bottling. The whites are also very traditionally made, vinification and elevage in oak (up to 60% new for the Grand Crus), and battonage is carried out according to the vintage.

Domaine Vincent Raimbault
http://www.tedwardwines.com/vincentraimbault.html
Region: Loire Valley
Vincent Raimbault took over his father's 15 hectares of vines situated on the hillsides between the Loire and the Brenne after graduating from the viticultural college in Amboise. The soil in the area is a tuffeau base overlaid with a flinty, silex-streaked clay. This differs considerably from the vineyards located along the edge of the Loire, where the top layer is limestone. The wines tend to be a little nervier and linear, with marked notes of chamomile, mineral and quinine. Though they may not have the grandeur and opulence of the wines from the 'premier cúte' after some time in the bottle, they are perhaps more racy and elegant when the wines are young. Wine-making here is distinguished by the need to bottle pure fruit and its naturally high acidity as early and as unadorned as possible. No new wood is used. Instead, neutral fermentation vessels such as large old oak casks and stainless steel tanks are used. Malolactic fermentation is completely suppressed, and the wine is expected to age slowly in the bottle.

After serving four years in the U.S. Navy, and then graduating in 1994 with a focus on Irrigation Technology and Fluid Dynamics, he was faced with the question of what he wanted to do. The answer was simple..."To follow my passion," he said. And with that answer, he began his journey into the world of winemaking. He followed his desire and began a seven-month internship with Hogue Cellars in Prosser, Washington, where he was trained in all phases of winemaking.

The Fastelli Estate, owned by Mauro Fastelli, is located northwest of Montalcino at approximately 350 m (1135 ft) above sea level. It was purchased by the Fastelli family in 1965 and renovated in 1970. Further renovations are currently underway to update and enlarge the vinification and aging cellars. The estate encompasses 6.5 Ha (16.25 acres) of land. 4.5 Ha (11.25 acres) are specialized for the production of Brunello and Rosso di Montalcino. 25,000 bottles are produced annually; 18,000 of Brunello and 7,000 of Rosso di Montalcino. The Rosso di Montalcino is produced with the same grapes as the Brunello but aged for only one year. Mauro Fastelli comes from the traditionalist wine-making school. While more and more people are using small French barrels (barrique), Mauro uses large Slavonian oak barrels, which take more time to refine the wine. The result is a wine of deep, muscular and austere structure with beautiful curves and well integrated flavors.

Fratelli Corsi
http://www.chianticorsi.it
Region: Toscana
The winery was founded in 1917 by Francesco Corsi. He was able to make his passion come true by starting to trade some wines produced in the area. It soon became necessary to change the type of offers to presented to the clients because buying and retailing products with suitable quality was not enough anymore. The importance of offering a constant high quality product, depending not only on the capability or by the luck of one single producer but on the ability to blend and keep the fragrance and flavor found in wines produced on different farms in the area, was necessary. The next step was to bottle the distributed wine. In that period in Tuscany wine containers did not exist, but there was “the container” - the flask (encased in straw). This created the possibility to sign the products, to put the Michelangelo label on the containers and to be recognized at last by the consumer. As the years went by, time made it necessary to make some changes. New people joined, initially the sons, then other partners, the Pisoni family. With the arrival of new markets with a local clientele, they have are now able to send the products to five continents. They have obviously modified many aspects of the work process, with new techniques. The flask has been in great part substituted with the bottle and they have extended the choice of some wines produced in other regions. But they can say that the initial spirit and passion has not changed.

Having already achieved a great reputation, Tonino and Valneo Livon continued to search for a higher quality wine. After many observations and studies throughout Italy, Germany, France and the United States, combined with studies at the University of Udine, they decided to completely alter part of the vineyards their father had created. As you can imagine, people thought they were crazy. Years of testing were required to determine the effect of different soils, elevations, pruning techniques and a multitude of other variables on the grapes and ultimately on the wine. Ancient traditions were not forgotten but were used to determine the clones of varieties to be used. They even went so far as to reintroduce indigenous vegetation, long gone, next to the vineyards. The result is a line of wines which are of excellent quality and structure.

Montellori
http://www.cmkconsulting.it/producers/montellori/index.html
Region: Toscana
Tuscany has a millennial history and tradition of winemaking and of the cultivation of the vine, but Tuscany's leading names are, for the most part, of fairly recent date.
The Nieri family of Fucecchio, a township in the western part of the province of Florence, is an important exception to this rule. Though located in an area which, in terms of the major traditions of Tuscan winemaking, is somewhat out of the mainstream, the family's Montellori estate celebrated its centennial anniversary as a producer of wine in 1995.
Over the past several decades the family and their house have aimed to create wines of true personality which express both the family's working philosophy and the specific character of the soil and climate of their place of origin, to put Montellori's wines in a position to compete with the best of Tuscany and establish their zone as a significant source of distinctive, identifiable wine.

Palagetto

For almost ten years, Palagetto has been cultivating one of the most typical Tuscan country sides. Their task is to wisely use nature's gift, intervening only when man's hand and his extraordinary ability to reason are indispensable. The up-to-date date equipment in the cellar allows a continual growth of the products' quality. The cream of Palagetto’s products is Vernaccia di San Gimignano D.O.C.G. The success of carefully selecting the grapes and of meticulously making the wine, produces a best quality wine. The combined results of a traditional conception of processing and the use of the most modern procedures of wine-making produces the precious bouquet and the intense savor which is obvious in the wines. The Chianti Colli Senesi D.O.C.G., temperate in its bouquet and savor, is the result of traditional fermentation and maturing oaken casky. An excellent companion to typical Tuscan dishes, this wine completely reflects the characteristics of the places it comes from.

The valley, like a canyon, brings up the warm wind from the lake. In the north is protected by the majestic rocks of the Dolomites.
Dolomites is the correct spelling in Ladino, the ancient native language.
Earth, rocks, wind are the elements encircling the Pravis winery. To be in synchrony with the habitat, the winery is completely excavated underground.
The grape varietals grown are mainly indigenous one with the Nosiola raising above all, from which the Vino Santo is made. A precious jewel of this Valley of Trentino.
The Pravis vineyards are overlooked by two medieval Castles: Castel Madruzzo and Castel Toblino

Santome`
http://www.tenutasantome.com
Region: Veneto
The origin of this winery is as interesting and historical as its name. Tenuta Santomè (St. Thomas) was chosen when a missionary who was born and bred in what is now the farmhouse on the Santomè estate, wrote to the Spinazzè family from far away Brazil to suggest the name. He felt that the figure of this Saint was ideally suited to “seal” the events and products of this farm.

Located very near the towns of Treviso and Venice, the Santomè vineyards cover an area of 60 hectares, 30 of which are located within the main estate in Biancade, and the other 30 situated on “Grave di Papadopoli,” an island on the River Piave between the villages Cimadolmo and Maserada.

Serenelli
http://www.angeliniwine.com/Producer.asp?BrandID=27
Region: Marche
Alberto Serenelli is carrying on the family traditions which began in 1920 by “Nonno” Alberto. He started to use the Montepulciano varietal grown on the hillsides of Monte Conero, an area which was designated as Rosso Conero D.O.C. in 1967. This is a very small viticultural area when compared to other D.O.C.’s. The smaller size, along with the special soil and micro climate, promotes the production of unique wines. In the 1930’s, “Nonno” Alberto created wines using 100% Montepulciano grapes, a highly unusual practice in those days. Years of research and experimentation have led to the identification of the best clones, root stocks and vineyard locations. In the 1980’s, Alberto “Junior”, with the assistance of “Nonno” Alberto and father Cesare, took leadership of the family farm and winery. In 1985, Alberto Serenelli unlocked the potential of the Montepulciano grapes, with the first production of “Varano”, made with 100% Montepulciano. The wine is made only in special years, and one had to wait until 1994 for the next vintage. Luckily the last few years have been outstanding, so the wine was also made in the 1998, 1999 and 2000 vintages. Land in the hamlet of Boranico in Varano on Monte Conero was purchased, and the Montepulciano grape was planted using the high density, low yield system. This is destined to be the crown jewel of the winery, with grapes that will produce wines of incredible character. 1999 marks the first release of Varano and Trave from these vineyards. Experience, passion and enthusiasm feed the desire to create “Trave”, “Varano” and “Marro” of great character and personality from the exclusive use of the Montepulciano grape.

Serge Laloue
http://www.tedwardwines.com/sergelaloue.html
Region: Loire Valley
Sancerre is one of the major appellations in the Loire Valley. Known mostly for its white wines made from Sauvignon Blanc, it also produces some lovely Pinot Noir reds and roses as well. The characteristic flinty and limestone-rich soil produces wines that are elegant, with bright acidity that make them great very food-friendly. Domaine Serge Laloue has been a family winery for generations. Brothers Serge and Frank run the domaine today, which comprises 18 hectares of vines. The brothers use modern winemaking facilities, while being careful to maintain time-tested traditions as well. The Sauvignon Blancs are hand harvested, stainless-steel fermented to accent the “terroir” of the vineyards. This is especially evident in the Cuvee Silex, which comes from the “silex” soils of the area, and results in a fuller, richer, more viscous wine, while the regular bottling from the Kimmeridigan soils is more lean, racy, and herbaceous.

Terramore
http://www.feudosanmartino.it/
Region: Sicilia
Terramore project is a result of a joint venture between Feudo San Martino and Nerida Abbott.
Feudo San Martino is a farm located in an important estate the size of circa 200 Ha (494 Acres) leaning on the charming hills surrounding the City of Caltanissetta, on the south side of the mount Gesso, dominating the Salso river valley.
The outstanding landscapes transmit, to the visitors, a sense of complete and serene plunge into this uncontaminated Mediterranean habitat’s corner, where past and present melts together with great respect of each other.
Nerida Abbott is a well known Australian oenologist and researcher. She expanded her experience in the Mediterranean areas. Nerida worked in Spain first; then, since 1996, in Languedoc - southern France.
The vineyards occupies 30 Ha (74 Acres) of the Feudo San Martino farm. Nero d’Avola is the main grape grown, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah are the other varietals grown. The production is limited to 2 Kg per vine.
The wines are fermented in stainless steel and refined lightly in French, Austrian and American barriques (small oak barrels). The results are wines of exceptional balance, faithful to the character of the grapes.

Zaccagnini

The Azienda Agricola Fratelli Zaccagnini is located in the beautiful hills of the Staffolo area within the Marche region. Wine has been produced here for thousands of years, most notably by the Benedettini monks during the XII and XIII centuries. One of the famous legends of this area came from the XV century when the “Lanzichenecchi" mercenaries were pillaging and rampaging various towns. They were stopped at the gates of Staffolo because they were defeated by the Verdicchio of this area. Both the Verdicchio and Rosso Conero by Zaccagnini are very well made wines available at a very reasonable price.
